These days just as fifty years ago a minimum list of fireplace accessories includes only a few necessary items. Nothing new was invented in the last century. Today you will need a set consisting of a poker, a shovel for coal, also brooms and tongs. Add to this list a screen that helps to adjust the flame, a grate and log holders, and that's probably going to be all you have purchase for the fireplace.
A fireplace glass door is installed on a fireplace to keep the room warm longer when the flames die down. Whether a wood burning fireplace or a gas burning fireplace, heat radiated into the room escapes through the chimney. One does not notice this while the fire is burning brightly, because of the heat from the flames that radiates into the room. However, when the fire starts to die down, the hearth becomes cold quickly as the heat escapes through the fireplace opening. To stop this from happening, a fireplace glass doors blocks the opening, keeping the warm air from leaving the room.
The modern gas fireplaces is truly a beautiful thing, the ultimate marriage of efficient functionality and elegant beauty. They are not like the old gas fireplaces, with their meek blue flames and their obscured tempered glass door panels that trapped in what little heat there was. These contemporary fireplaces feature real-looking yellow and orange flames curling around real-looking ceramic "logs," which are very visible through newer-style ceramic glass door panels, which also let the heat pass through to the rest of the room or outdoor space. A newer model gas fireplace has more cool accessories than the old gas fireplaces - child safety screens and pull screens, storage cabinets, mantles and display shelves, ornamental ceramic logs, overlay doors and louvers, decorative panels and all-purpose grills. They can be made of anything from cast iron or stainless steel to molded cement, or even bronze, with ceramic, stone or copper garnishes.
You can find these very useful accessories in fireplace specialty stores or even some hardware stores and big box home centers as well. A search done on your favorite search engine will provide information on where you can purchase them as well. You can even buy them online but keep in mind that you will pay shipping and handling charges as well.
